In the last few weeks my language has literally exploded...my Mom keeps saying I "fascinate" her--cool Mom! I am now speaking in broken sentences, putting three or four words together consistently. My expressive language is finally starting to catch up with my receptive language, which has been a lot of fun. My parents say I do funny things like open my toy box and say "Hmmmmm, cool" and show everyone that the "Icky Can Man" dumps our trash (I say "dump" while doing hand gestures to get the point across). Needless to say, "Trick or Treat" will be no problem for me come the end of the month--heck, I've had maybe pieces of two cookies in my entire life and I know that word!
I would like to apologize to all my aunts...this video was too long for the blog, so I had to cut you all out. But, I can say all of your names and identify you on pictures too!
I went to see my dentist again and got a clean bill of health. Unfortunately, all four of my remaining molars are coming in at once, which has been painful and making it hard to sleep well. He said my spacing looks great and they loved my family's song for brushing our teeth "Ahh Ahh Ahh for the bottoms and the tops, Eee Eee Eee for the fronts for the fronts." We make up songs for everything!
Probably most important was my evaluation with NACD. I am a "bad news first" kind of guy (Mom says we are "realists"), so here's the bad news. My right arm is not progressing in terms of functionality quickly enough to make anyone happy. Mr. Doman told my parents it was now or never, if I don't get functional use of my right arm/hand in the next couple of years, it will deteriorate even further and there is a possibility my skeletal structure will even change, causing the typical "CP hand." The solution is to restrain my left arm to help my brain realize it needs to create new pathways. What this means is that I will have to wear a hard splint (think cast) on my left arm during waking hours. Now, the look on Mom's face told me all I needed to know, I'm not going to like this one bit. In fact, I think you should all send my parents a message telling them this is cruel and unusual punishment. Mom says we will have lots of tears, but when I am 16 I will thank them. I don't buy it. Besides that slap back to reality, the evaluation went well. I am testing cognitively at a four year old level, thus Mr. Doman thinks there is great potential for me to be "brilliant." I received my updated program and there are a lot of new activities...wish me luck!
My Grandma Jane is here visiting and I have not let her out of my sight! That's right, we are the best of friends :) I am a little bossy telling her to "come back" and "sit down" but she doesn't mind!
There are three things I love in this world...
1) Water (in any form)
2) My dog Oly
3) and "icky cans"
In fact, I love "icky cans" so much I have started tossing things away secretly, like my Mom's bluetooth, which is now in a Phoenix landfill! Hahaha!
On a more serious note, I wanted to take this time to tell you about my second cousin, Matilda. She just turned two weeks old and has been diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder that is causing acute liver failure. She is in Mt. Siani Children's Hospital waiting to see if a new treatment (a double blood transfusion) will help her recover. If her liver doesn't rebound, she will need a liver transplant. Her parents, Tyler and Kelly, also have a two year old son Parker and just moved from Montana to New York. If you have a few extra dollars and would like to donate to her care, please use this link http://www.gofundme.com/Love4Matilda
This is sweet baby Matilda!
Here I am making a card for Matilda!
My masterpiece! I hope it makes Matilda feel better!
Have a great week :)
