Last Wednesday, I went down for my nap and woke up about an hour later in a lot of pain. Mom and Dad set me on the floor and found that I could not walk, specifically, I couldn't bear weight on my right leg. They got me to a doctor within the hour, however, everyone was perplexed because I had no bruising or swelling to indicate an injury and it was not painful when the doctor manipulated or touched my leg. We went home with a diagnosis of a sprained ankle, although Mom and Dad weren't convinced. After flying home on Thursday and seeing no improvement, Mom took me to the Phoenix Children's Hospital Emergency Room on Friday, where they did x-rays of my hip and leg. According to my films, I have a periosteal reaction around my fibula. A periosteal reaction is the formation of new bone caused by tumor, infection, or trauma. Since there was no confirmed break or fracture, I have to follow-up with an Orthopedic Surgeon on Wednesday of this week. Wish me luck, because I didn't improve over the weekend and I'm scared I may have to be in a cast or immobilizer. The good news is, I gained nearly 1.5 pounds on vacation (up to 36 now!), which means I get a higher dose of medicine to help with pain. Just when I was starting to get the hang of walking....ugh.
Why do I always have to wear these purple dress things at Phoenix Children's Hospital!?!
While we were gone Anthem got hit with a terrible storm...the worst in several decades! In fact, we got a year's worth of rain in 35 minutes. We came home to find our big tree in the backyard snapped nearly in half, our neighbor's screen mangled and broken in our backyard, the control box to our sprinklers fried (you can imagine what the yard looked like after no water for 10 days in 115 degree heat!), and a water leak in my parent's bedroom. WOW!
Well, on to the good news :) I had a wonderful time in Montana with all of my family and friends. I was outside from 6:30am until my parents made me eat or come in to sleep. Sweeping, raking, and maneuvering stairs were my favorite things to do :) I watched the deer in my Grandma Jane's front yard, and rode the big tractor at Grandma Nessan's. Did I also mention that my Aunt Erika and Uncle Jake got married? I did a lot better in rehearsal than I did during the wedding (in fact, I stopped half way down the aisle, started to cry, then threw my sippy cup at some unsuspecting audience member!). Also, my speech improved a TON while I was away, I am talking up a storm, even using couplets (two word phrases) consistently. Check out my video below...
I think the pictures will tell a better story, here were some of the highlights from our trip...
Mom was obsessed with the deer, but look at the twin fawns! I loved watching them too :)
