Orthopedic Update

Hello everyone! I went to see the Orthopedic Surgeon today and wanted to give you the update...the diagnosis is a Toddler Fracture.  According to Dr. White, this is the most common leg injury of kids my age, he sees about three a week.  Typically it happens when a child falls from a standing position and gets his/her leg caught the wrong way.  Apparently, it will heal on its own, in about three to four weeks.  Unfortunately, I need to rest my leg and stay off it for the majority of that time, but I will ultimately be the one who dictates weight bearing activities.  Dr. White does not want to do an MRI or any further testing unless I see no improvement in two weeks.  He said I was in too good of a mood for any type of serious infection and he saw no sign of a periosteal reaction like the doctor did in the emergency room.  Mom says that ER doctor who said I could have a tumor on Friday and made us wait until Wednesday to meet with a specialist should be put in time out.  What a jerk, none of us have been sleeping!  So, the good news is, no tumor or cast, the bad news is I will be out of commission for several weeks.

Side note, Mom was real nervous about this whole situation, so she called Bob Doman yesterday (NACD Founder and my evaluator).  He told Mom the exact same thing as the doctor did today without ever laying an eye on my x-rays or examining me in person.  The man is a genius, and a nice calming presence--he always reiterates that doctors are rarely "ok" with saying "I don't know or I can't nail down a diagnosis."  His recommendation was warm baths and lots of rest!

Thanks for all of the calls, texts, and e-mails!  I will keep you updated on how I am doing.

Vinny,

So relieved to hear that you don't have a tumor or infection. Enjoy letting mommy and daddy wait on you and you'll be as good as new before you know it.

I am impressed that you have become such a wordsmith in the short time since I've seen you. Keep up the good work cause it's obviously paying big dividends. You and your smile are irresistible.
